You must have completed an Illawarra Archers Introduction to Archery session within four (4) months of your Beginners Course. It is a pre-requisite to the Beginners Course.

Courses depend upon the availability of our volunteer coaches. If no courses are listed, please check the website now and again for future available courses.

The Archery Beginners Course is a pre-requisite to joining Illawarra Archers.

The course usually consists of two 3.5-hour sessions held over consecutive Sundays. From time to time, additional Beginners Courses may be arranged. For example, mid-week during school holidays.

The course builds on the archery basics covered in the Introduction to Archery session, and is the gateway to your journey into archery, consisting of:

All equipment is provided, and the course is led by accredited Archery Australia Coaches.

We have bows that are suitable for right and left-handed archers and have light enough draw weight for most beginners.

You must be at least 10 years old and must be physically fit enough to use the equipment. You must be able to concentrate for the duration of the session. A child under the age of 14 must be under the supervision of a responsible adult.

On completion of the course, you will have learned the basics of sighted recurve archery and you will have demonstrated the skills and competencies to allow you to apply for membership of the club. We will also measure you up and provide you with information to help you to purchase your own equipment with confidence.

Cost: $115 for adults, $90 for minors aged 10 to 17 years (Minimum age 10). There is also a small additional booking fee.

A private Beginners Course may be arranged, for an additional fee. Timing is dependent upon availability of a certified coach, but otherwise may be at any mutually agreed time.
