Compound Bow Introduction Sessions

updated 7/4/2025

We are now offering an introduction to compound bows. These sessions will not be on a regular schedule, but rather will be run 'on demand' when we have participants and coaches available.

You must be a member or have completed an Illawarra Archers Beginners Course .

Courses depend upon the availability of our volunteer coaches. Contact the coaching co-ordinator if you would like to register for a session.

The Introduction is primarily intended for archers who have no experience with a compound bow and have not  purchased one, but are considering a compound bow.

We expect this will mostly apply to recent graduates of our beginners courses, especially those who have not yet purchased any equipment. However, more established members who are considering a move to compound archery could also be considered.

This in not intended as a development / coaching session for those who have experience with compound archery.

This Introduction builds on the archery basics covered in the Beginners Course, but entirely focused on compound archery, including comparisons and contrasts to recurve archery.

The coaching experience is intensive, with session attendees limited to 2 or 3 people.

All equipment is provided.

We have bows that are suitable for right and left-handed archers and have light enough draw weight for beginners. The coaches are Archery Australia accredited and have considerable experience in compound archery.

On completion of the course, you will have learned the basics of compound archery and equipment. We will make recommendations to you with information to help you to purchase your own equipment with confidence.

Cost: $40

Timing is dependent upon availability of a certified coaches, but otherwise may be at any mutually agreed time. Please contact the coaching co-ordinator if interested
